Capacity and Specifications:
The included 3/4HP compressor is suitable for effective aeration of dams at ~4 acres in surface area. A deeper dam allows air to diffuse over a wider area, whereas a shallower and broad dam may require more air stations for better circulation.
Why Aeration is Important for Dams:
Aeration is one of the most universally beneficial management options for improving water quality and conditions in a dam. Dam aerators distribute fine bubbles of air through air diffusers, which cycles deeper layers of water, and dissolves oxygen into the water body. Dissolved oxygen and a healthy circulation of water are important for natural processes and microbial activity that support the health of a waterbody, and develop a natural and self-sustaining ecosystem capable of supporting fish, crustaceans, aquatic plants and waterbirds.
Key Benefits:
- Increases dissolved oxygen (DO)
- Improves water clarity
- Reduces fish deaths
- Prevents thermal stratification
- Minimises odour and algae growth
Installation:
This Aerator Kit includes 4 subsurface dam bed air diffuser stations. Subsurface aeration is most effective for deeper dams (>2.5m), pumping air to the bottom of the dam to enable complete circulation, and breaking up stratified layers of water. The diffuser stations should be placed in the deepest parts of the dam, distributed as evenly of possible. The included air stations may require anchoring depending on the positioning, but comes with attachment point on a base plate for weights or ties.
The compressor included in this kit is a 3/4HP rocking piston compressor, which runs off mains power. It also includes a base plate with 4 mounting points, and included rubber feet, allowing installation in cabinets, sheds, onto concrete slabs, or wherever is convenient. Running off mains power ensures installation is easy and won’t require specific experience in electrics, and can usually be completed in 1 day.
