Also known as the Darwin Algae Shrimp or Algae Eater Shrimp, this unique freshwater species belongs to the Atyidae family. Originally described by P. Roux in 1833, its natural habitat spans from Egypt’s Nile River down to Lake Sibaya in South Africa. Interestingly, some sources also trace its origin to northern Australia, where it is widely studied and bred.
Often mistaken for Caridina longistiris, the Darwin Algae Shrimp stands out with its distinctive white stripe that can extend from head to tail—its visibility sometimes changing based on the time of day or feeding behavior.
Males are typically smaller and less vibrant, while females grow larger and display more vivid coloration. These shrimps can reach a mature size of approximately 4–5 cm, making them an excellent addition to freshwater aquariums, especially for algae control and natural beauty.

Change of Mind
Conditions for change of mind.
- Must be unopened, unused, and in saleable condition.
- Must be within 14 days of purchase.
- Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
- A 10% restocking fee will apply to all refunds for change of mind.

Item Received Damaged
If you receive a product that is broken in transit, we must be contacted within 48 hours of you receiving your order. Please fill in the below form with the reason for return as "Damaged in Transit." We will then contact you with further instructions.
Faulty within Manufacturer Warranty
